Lessons
Director Kim Anderson has trained under such current and former Olympians as George Morris, Nona Garson, Anne Kursinski and U. S. Equestrian Team members Stephen Bradley and Laine Ashker. Ms. Anderson is an accomplished equestrian and began her teaching career in 1976. She personally instructs beginner and intermediate riding students in Hunt Seat Equitation and Jumping.
MSEC offers only private lessons, which consist of 45 minutes riding time. Clients may use their own horse or one of our school horses. Advanced lessons in Dressage are also available. Private lessons cost $50 and Video analysis is also available.
Horse Use Fees Some riding students who have not yet purchased their own horse want to practice riding techniques outside of their weekly lessons. For these clients, MSEC makes a school horse available for a monthly fee. Full Use Package ($200) allows the student four sessions per week. This fee is in addition to the cost of lessons. The charge for a student to use a MSEC School horse in an off-site horse show is $50 per day plus trailering charges and coaching fees unless the student has subscribed to a Full-Use Package.
Coaching Riding students who attend horse shows may elect to receive coaching assistance from Ms. Anderson. Coaching services include oversight and strategy during pre-show warm-up on the flat and schooling (practice) over fences. Ms. Anderson provides feedback to riders during their class when show rules allow, and there’s always a full review of the student’s performance after the class. Video analysis is also available for an additional charge. Daily coaching fee is $35 per rider.
Training Horse training using "Natural Horsemanship" methods is available on a monthly schedule. We start young horses beginning at the age of 2 ½ and work with older horses to advance their training in ground manners and riding compatibility. Horses are given a minimum of 5 hours per week actual training time. The cost of training is $100 per week and this fee is in addition to the required board fee.
Trailering Fees Transporting horses from one place to another is frequently a challenge for folks who board their horses. MSEC trailering fees are based on time and distance. The base charge is $25 per trip and $.75 per mile.
